Description: Dun-colored, wide-mouthed cylindrical stoneware jar, two-gallon capacity, with crescent-shaped lug handles and a flattened roll rim. Cobalt blue slip-decorated stylized tulip on belly, and cobalt slip decoration over stamped markings. No lid.  Stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD / BURLINGTON, VT. / 2" in upper center of one side, below rim.

Notes: According to company invoices in the Ballard Pottery Company Collection at the University of Vermont Special Collections, this type of jar was sold by Ballard as a lidded "butter jar" and it was produced in 1/2 to 8 gallon sizes. This jar presumably was sold with a lid, no longer present.
