Description
Dun-colored, wide-mouthed cylindrical stoneware jar, two-gallon capacity, with crescent-shaped lug handles and a flattened roll rim. Cobalt blue slip-decorated stylized tulip on belly, and cobalt slip decoration over stamped markings. No lid.  Stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD / BURLINGTON, VT. / 2" in upper center of one side, below rim.

Notes
According to company invoices in the Ballard Pottery Company Collection at the University of Vermont Special Collections, this type of jar was sold by Ballard as a lidded "butter jar" and it was produced in 1/2 to 8 gallon sizes. This jar presumably was sold with a lid, no longer present.
