Description
Dun-colored, small-mouthed cylindrical stoneware jar with rounded shoulders, two-gallon capacity, with crescent-shaped lug handles and a flattened roll rim. Cobalt blue slip-decorated stylized leaf on belly, and cobalt slip-decorated stamped markings. No lid. Stamped "F.WOODWORTH / BURLINGTON, VT. / 2" in upper center of one side, below rim.

Notes
According to company invoices in the Ballard Pottery Company Collection at the University of Vermont Special Collections, this type of jar was sold by Ballard, F. Woodworth's predecessor, as a lidded "preserve jar," and it was produced in 1/2 to 4 gallon sizes. This jar presumably was sold with a lid, no longer present.
