Notes
“First Day of I.O.O.F. Session,” Burlington Free Press and Times, May 19, 1910: 350 people gathered in Burlington for “annual session of the grand bodies” of Vermont Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Parade: “Shortly after two o’clock in the afternoon the cantons began to form for the parade. They lined up on St. Paul street with the right resting on main. A large crowd gathered early in City Hall Park to witness the formation and it was rewarded with a fine spectacle. With their swords and gold braid glittering in the sunlight the Patriarchs Militant wheeled into column of fours and marched off to the music of Sherman’s Military band. The line of march was up Main to Church, to Pearl, to South Willard, to Main, to South Union, to College, to St. Paul and back to the armory. The reviewing officers took their stand in the park and the cantons came back, one by one, from the armory and engaged in the competitive drill.”
