Notes
According to Connie Cain Ramsay, the jail was a 1907 addition to an 1888 residence. The building was demolished in 1972. (Ramsay, "The Quirky History of Jailhouses in Burlington," Burlington Free Press, June 5, 2014). However, the date on this image suggests that the jail addition was actually completed in 1906. The small child visible in the window of the house was likely a family member of the sheriff, who lived on site.
